Track By Track- Gut: Yummy

As I explained earlier, “Gut: Yummy” is sort of a reversal of “Time” because despite Cassie’s intentions to have me be mature and rise above conflict, I often end up more in the “BUT I BET YOU WON’T SAY SHIT TO MY FACE BITCH” camp with Yummy. Yummy is generally the easiest character for me to embody but being intuitive she does pose her own unique set of challenges. It’s hard to record the same thing over and over again and have it feel intuitive. I imagine it’s sort of like telling the same joke to the same audience twice. I decided to set the interlude as a phone call since Yummy comes out easily when I’m talking shit with my friends. As I explained in the “Time” post I was having some girl conflict and so I asked my friend Dana to come in and say almost verbatim what we said on the phone a couple of days prior and just change my name to Yummy. I wanted to use the interlude to explain Yummy but given the nature of the character, I felt like I could more clearly get her across if I just expressed myself naturally in a Yummy-inducing situation. Even though I was talking a lot of shit and being very fiery, I wanted to get across that Yummy is not an angry character. I don’t consider myself to be an angry person so there’s no way she could be. I wanted her delivery of telling these bitches to go fuck themselves to be ultimately light-hearted. Because I genuinely enjoy talking shit with my friends. I wanted to communicate that she’s not brought down by the drama, she finds it amusing. She’s clear that she’s going to protect who she cares about. Yummy thrives on adrenaline and she can get that from being on stage, a rollercoaster ride, or confrontation.

Yummy is all too happy to get into it with people and Cassie often has to pull her in, especially because at the end of the day most people really don’t want the drama they claim to. So it’s really not worth my time.
